  Ohio's Covered Bridges

Having personally photographed, hunted, recorded and researched all known 147 existing, (or recently defunct) covered bridges in Ohio, which he has found in each county, photographer Mark Berger possesses the definitive collection. He soon plans to publish a book of these bridges.

Mary Rufner Covered Bridge

Mary Ruffner Covered Bridge was built in 1875, with a Smith truss. The bridge is 82 feet long with a single span and rests on cut stone abutments.

It has diagonal floor planking and is one of only a few covered bridges in Ohio to have a shake roof. This bridge once spanned the Little Rush River, which is a tributary of Rush Creek and drains into Eastern Fairfield County.

This bridge was moved to a private residence that spans two twin lakes with the bridge in the middle. The Bridge was restored in July of1987.

Please remember, when going onto private property, always get permission from the owner before going to look at a covered bridge.

Directions: The Mary Ruffner Bridge is located just south of Thornville, Ohio; on State Route 13.
